There is an interesting background to the Cambodia gambling dens that sit just over the border from nearby Thailand, where casino gaming is prohibited. Eight gambling dens are established in a generally tiny area in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling dens is in a prime spot, a three to 4 hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular betting centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai workers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The phenomenal income gained from the gambling halls ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a couple of limitations requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mainly Thai; although, investment sources are cryptic. The borders are ceremoniously open from 0900 to 17:00, and although visas are for all intents and purposes needed to pass, there are ways around this, as is accurate of many border crossings.

The original Cambodia gambling halls premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving only 1 gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored boat gambling hall, highlights one hundred and fifty slot machines and 60 tables. The Naga gambling hall never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat banque, 4 tables of vingt-et-un, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly opened. A total of one hundred and fifty slots and five table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four one armed bandits and sixty eight table games at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 slots and seventy tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machines and 96 table games, including 87 baccarat banque (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machines and 66 of the common gaming tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, again a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machines and ninety seven casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an international resort and hotel building that features many comforts aside from the casino, which offers ten thousand sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slots and eighty eight gaming tables.
