• Cambodia Gambling Dens

There is an interesting story to the Cambodia gambling dens that reside just over the border from nearby Thailand, in which gambling den wagering is not allowed. Eight gambling halls are based in a relatively small location in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling dens is in a prime area, a three to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest gambling centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai blue-collar workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very couple of Westerners. The phenomenal capital gained from the gambling dens ranges from 7.5 million dollars to more than twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a number of controls requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mainly Thai; however, financing sources are vague. The borders are officially open from 0900 to 17:00, and though visas are supposedly needed to cross, there are means around this, as is real of most border crossings.

The 1st Cambodia casinos opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in 1998, leaving only 1 casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored bateau gambling hall, features one hundred and fifty slot machine games and 60 gaming tables. The Naga casino never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat, 4 tables of blackjack, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The first gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon followed. There are 150 slots and five table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machines and sixty eight gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred slot machine games and seventy tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machine games and 96 gaming tables, including 87 baccarat chemin de fer (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 one armed bandits and 66 of the common tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the 8 gambling halls in Poipet, also in a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slots and 97 table games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a multinational resort and hotel building that highlights a number of luxuries aside from the gambling hall, which contains 10,000 sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slot machines and eighty eight tables.
